About Robert Hawes

Robert Hawes

Bridging the gap between law enforcement and Clayton County citizens is what I believe we must have in order for our community to thrive. Therefore, educating citizens on the nature of our work and building strong collaborative partnerships with stakeholders is an essential point of our campaign.

Clayton County deserves leadership that values saftey, service, and integrity. We also deserve seasoned law enforcement leadership. My 25 years of law enforcement service is proven.

Restoring Service with Respect & Integrity.

Transparency and Accountability

Gaining and maintaining integrity in law enforcement is about ensuring all law enforcement officials uphold values of service and safety. We must strive to do the right thing in all situations. Transparency is not just getting citizens to believe that crime is decreasing or magnifying corruption, although clearly both are important. Transparency is about accountability and how well law enforcement officials make decisions, deal with situations and how we treat people day in and day out. If we as law enforcement officials don’t maintain a level of empathy, integrity and accountability, there is no way the law can be enforced without abuse..

My Law Enforcement Guiding Principle is

To maintain at all times a relationship with citizens that gives reality to the historic tradition that law enforcement officials are the public and that the public are law enforcement officials, our deputies being members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.

Standing Together for a Safer Clayton

Why Robert Hawes?

Decades of research suggests that people are more likely to obey the law when they believe that those who are enforcing it have authority that is perceived as legitimate. Nurturing trust and legitimacy between law enforcement officials and communities stems from a belief that law enforcement is acting in a fair and just procedural manner. “Law enforcement culture should embrace a guardian—rather than a warrior—mind-set to build trust and legitimacy both within agencies and with the public. Toward that end, law enforcement agencies should adopt procedural justice as the guiding principle” says the 21st Century Policing Task Force. This thought enforces my focus for deputy education. As Law enforcement officials, we are guardians building trust.

My philosophy of stakeholders and deputies working together to co-produce safer communities will result in collaborations that identify problems which will create solutions that will educate and empower citizens.
